I’m Just an Island Girl
I’m a 30-something Hawai’i girl who’d rather be at home with my family than out having a social life. Most days you’ll find me working my “day job” or at home with my husband and two children. It’s difficult balancing work, marriage, and parenting while living in the uber expensive state of Hawai’i.
A Diverse Ethnic Heritage
I was born and raised on the island of O’ahu, Hawai’i. I have a rather diverse ethnic heritage; a mixture of French, Irish, Korean, Hawaiian, Portuguese, Native American (Lakota), and Chinese.
Though it may be hard to tell what race I am at first glance, I just consider myself a mixed plate. I went to a school for people of Hawaiian descent and am very proud of my heritage. I am a Hawaiian and a Hawaiian Islander. What’s the difference? Well, if you have Hawaiian blood (your parents and ancestors are all part Native Hawaiian), you are Hawaiian, if you live in the state of Hawai’i (regardless of your race or ethnicity), you are a Hawaiian Islander. There is no need to get all technical though because, at the end of the day, I’m just an island girl.
A Wife Madly In Love With Her Husband
I married my dreamy-eyed husband Andrew in 2013 and life with him has been an adventure with many ups and downs. He is my soulmate, my lover, my best friend, and my rock. I have been blessed by him since day 1 and I’m looking forward to living the rest of my life with him.
He is a hard working, multifaceted man who loves me and our children fiercely. He is an excellent father to Alaka’i and Arielle, they both adore him.
When he’s not working, he’s spending time with us, cooking, running his own website, getting his Master’s Degree, getting his PMP Project Management certification or a Six Sigma certification, playing his guitar, cooking something yummy, or having fun working on his classic 1965 Ford Mustang. He’s driven, busy, and the most wonderful husband a girl could ask for. He’s also an evil genius when it comes to combining flavors with food and is a wonderful cook.
He’s as eclectic as I am and yet the perfect compliment to me. He is my strength when I am weak, my rock when I’m unsteady, my best friend and the love of my life.
Mom to a Teenager and a Toddler
Before there was Andrew, there was the first true love of my life, my son Alaka’i. I had him when I was 19 and he has been my reason (for everything) for the last 15 years. He and I call ourselves “the original team” which grew when Andrew came into our lives. You’ll see throwbacks and occasional posts featuring Alaka’i who would rather not be on the blog all the time because… teenagers… they’re just too cool, ya know?!
And then there is Arielle, my spicy 2 (and a half) year old daughter. She’s a ham, a princess, a pumpkin, and a daddy’s girl who absolutely loves to sing and dance. When she’s not wearing her pretty dresses and princess crowns, she’s dancing and singing and playing with my parents’ chihuahua, Buddy.
Stressed Out Workaholic
I currently wear many work hats as an employee of a family-owned small business. It’s not an easy job and it comes with a lot of stress. Though I won’t go into specifics out of respect for my family, it’s a huge part of my life and what I’ll be referring to as my “day job”.
I plan on using this blog to diversify my income through ad revenue, affiliate revenue, courses I plan to launch, etc. to help liberate me from my 9 to 5.
I will be taking you all along with me on that journey from a brand new blog to monetization and making income from it. Hopefully, that will help anyone looking to make money online learn how to do it themselves!
Weight and Health Overhaul
Though I wasn’t overweight as a young child, I was chubby as an adolescent. That later progressed to being overweight and then I lost weight, had my son, gained weight, and so on. I’ve struggled with my weight for the better part of two decades. After having my daughter Arielle and then coping with my very high-stress job, I’ve ballooned to my highest weight ever.
My health has been negatively impacted by my weight and stress levels. I’m obese with borderline/high blood pressure, high blood sugar (pre-diabetes), and am in pain from carrying my weight around every day. I am genetically predisposed to heart disease, high blood pressure, aneurysms, and more. My paternal grandmother died at 39 and I’m a handful of years from that age. I don’t want to die and leave my husband and children behind. The time is now. No more putting off getting and staying healthy.
I’ve just started a new diet and lifestyle regimen to help motivate me to lose weight, get in shape. It’s called Mōdere which is a line of health and weight management products that are GMO-free. I’m really excited to start this new chapter and if it works for me, will be sharing my experiences with all of you. Stay tuned on the blog for updates, weigh-ins, and more! It’s not just about losing weight, it’s about improving overall health and wellbeing.
